Computer Science and Engineering 2009 undergraduate and 2011 master's graduate Kübra Kalkan Çakmakçı won the IEEE Turkey Doctorate Dissertation Prize with her dissertation “Filtering Based Defense Mechanisms Against DDOS Attacks for Core Networks”. Our graduate also won the Boğaziçi University Scientific Research Projects' Doctorate Dissertation Award with the same study.

Kübra Kalkan Çakmakçı completed her master's degree at Sabancı University with advisor Professor Albert Levi, and started a PhD program at Boğaziçi University. During her studies, she worked in the EU ITEA project titled Attack Detection and Countermeasures (ADAX) with Professor Fatih Alagöz. This project won the ITEA3 ITEA Awards of Excellence 2016 ("Business Impact") award. Her dissertation recommended defense mechanisms against DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks in conventional networks as well as next-generation Software-Defined Networks. 

Kübra Kalkan Çakmakçı has been a postdoctoral researcher at Oxford University since 2017, where she is working on developing security protocols for P2P IoT systems.

About the IEEE Turkey PhD Dissertation Award

The IEEE Turkey PhD Dissertation Award is given to outstanding young scientists who have completed their PhDs in a university in Turkey within the last two years in one of the areas of activity of IEEE (The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers).

About the Boğaziçi University Scientific Research Projects Doctorate Dissertation Award

Dissertation Awards are given to outstanding dissertations in Fundamental Sciences, Engineering, Social Sciences and Humanities in order to encourage research activities and reward successful research.
